DRAW DOWN THE MOON

FOXING

2021 POP-ROCK/INDIE-ROCK

Draw Down The Moon is the fourth full length album by, as of this release, ex-emo band Foxing. I remember the boys mainly for their debut album, a pretty decent emo that got lost in a crowd of superior releases from the genre back in whichever wave self-important sonic historians define as occurring in the early 2010s. After two more records that I’d classify as well below average we land at Draw Down The Moon. The band is much different than those old days of whiskey breath and crumpled packs of American Spirits, and it’s way sadder than any song they wrote back then. They transformed. By what unholy means I can only imagine and I shall. No doubt a Faustian bargain with exactly the terms that occur when musicians are involved, your soul for fame and wealth. Beelzebub kept up his end of the deal and now Foxing are a soulless pop-rock band from a half a decade ago. Imagine, Imagine Dragons, Maroon 5, Twenty One Pilots, the insults go on. The vocals are just like all of them, the soaring choruses, the wah-ohs, the slight gravelly inflection to feign emotion, a steady flow of cliché lyrics. The songs themselves with their constant attempts at big hits, garish overproduction, and enough compression to flatten the Appalachians. Now there is nothing inherently wrong with altering a style or selling out; the only thing that matters is good tunes and well, Foxing doesn’t make it there, not even close. Draw Down The Moon is awful, honestly embarrassing. The devil came out far ahead on this one.
